Vonk's Nigerien Log

August 12, 2007

Dear Ones,

It's Sunday and we enjoyed worship at the Tibiri campus (where the classes are held) with the teachers and the local Tibiri Church joining the group. It was a wonderful time of praise, prayer, and preaching. The music, singing and drums, filled the room with joy. The message was given in French, and translated into Hausa and English.

We just had Sunday dinner with Tom and Aichatou Johnson. She made a delicious potato and vegetable casserole with ground meat and cheese, topped with corn flakes. As Tom said, "Not very Nigerien, but very good!" A real treat for us!

Our inter-net connection from the Guest House in Maradi is down so we are delighted to touch base from the Johnsons this afternoon. We just sent a note written on August 10, plus a couple of pictures.

We have only had one good rain since our arrival: rain is desperately needed, please pray for good steady showers of rain. Also on Friday and Saturday we will be making the trip back to Niamey: that, too, needs prayer for safety.

We are staying healthy and rested, my finger is finally begining to dry and heal. I'm still very careful and Ted is washing a lot of dishes!

Love to all, Ted and Eleanor
