Vonk's Nigerien Log

Dear Friends and Family,
We arrived in Niamey at 3:15 P.M. Tuesday afternoon right on time as
scheduled. All travel went well, in fact it was an uneventful trip compared to our other two trips to Africa. That was fine with us ...

We were met at the airport by Jim and Chris (Jim is the level two instructor and Ted level I) and Brigitte, the Swiss missionary who is the coordinator of the seminars. It was wonderful to see them again, and like "old home" when we arived at the SIM Guesthouse. We were especially excited to be there because of the great wireless internet connection we experienced last year. Well, that conection was down and waiting for a part to come, who knows when. The next morning we managed to get downtown to a cyber cafe, and after countless tries were told the internet connection was down all over Niamey. We so wanted to let you all know that our arrival was smooth and safe. Now it is Thursday morning, August 2, and we are in a little cyber cafe. After a frustrating hour -- SUCCESS. We hope you receive this!

After several meetings and planning sessions we are preparing to go to Maradi tomorrow morning. That is a long trip and we certainly hope it is also an uneventful travel through the desert. Today the old Toyota is having four new tires and a check-up in preparation for the trip. During the night there was a hard rain so we are hoping there will not be any serious washouts.

It is very hot and muggy. As I was using the hair curling iron this morning the streams of water were already running down my face, and it was only 6:30 in the morning. We are grateful for the ceiling fan in our bedroom! !!

Thank you for your love and prayers.
Yours, in Christ,
Ted and Eleanor
