| Church began at 8:A.M. with a Bible
study and lots of inspirational music accompanied by the keyboard and various
drums. We sang along because it was easy to follow the phonetic spelling
of the songs. Men sat in the center of the sanctuary, women on the right
side, youth on the left side, and children up front on the floor on rugs.
Both of us had an interpreter as we appreciated the sermon on the Glory
of God. It was a wonderful experience, even though the wooden benches were
hard and the service lasted until 11:00. We were invited to an elder’s
home for dinner. There were lots of extended family there as well as other
church people. They were so friendly and gracious: the meal of chicken and
sauce with cake for dessert was very good. After dinner and the appropriate farewells we left Zinder and headed west back to Maradi. We had a safe trip and arrived here at the Mission Guest House in Maradi at 6:o”clock. We checked into our room, cleaned up a bit, and joined the guests in an informal English speaking worship service. There were 14 missionaries there from various parts of the world…Canada, Australia, England, Nigeria, Germany, and the USA. We had a great time learning about their work in Niger and appreciating the global body of Christ. We will be here in Maradi for five days. The first two days we will be visiting schools and observing, then we will be working on staff development and in-service sessions for teachers. We will live here in the guest house. We have nice beds complete with mosquito netting, our own bathroom, and a common kitchen where we are responsible for our own food and cooking. We will be able to get what we need from the local markets. We hope these emails are making it to the web site! We have not been able to include any pictures because of the difficulty with the phone modem. We hope that it will be easier to email next week when we will be back in Niamey.
